HP Deskjet 2540 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had HP doctor help trying to establish connection for my pc and a wireless to my Deskjet printer.  Couldn'd get wireless, but using a USB cord I was able to use the printer.  However, when I went to my Scan and Capture, the app wouldn't stay open. It opened, but quickly disappeared before I could do anything.  I looked for my photos, but they are gone also. I cannot locate them anywhere.  I do not  understand what happened.  If I uninstall and reinstall as suggested, will I then permenantly lose all my photos?  I am really, really concerned.  Would appreciate any help.  Thank you.

To be able to use  HP Scan and Capture app, you need wireless connection. Please use HP Scan Extended using the following software

        ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows 10:

(a) Hit Win key,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"

hoh, now I can't find what the message was.  Anyway, I couldn't find the HP grouo/folder. and I did double click the HP Scan Extended, but got a message saying it wasn't working.  And I still can't get to the Scan and Capture pictures.

I did as you said.  Then when I scrolled down and found the HP Scam Extended, I double clicked on it and the message came up "HP imaging device not found"  So, it seems I'm back at Square 1.  Don't know what to do.  Should I uninstall the Extender and try it all over again?  I've already done it twice, but I didn't uninstall anything.  I'm really afraid to touch it for fear I'll make it worse.  I sent you two messages before this, but I cannot find the first one as I was cut off and I continued on the second one and it probably doesn't make any sense.  Thanks for reaching out to help me.

Looks like you have not install software and driver to your machine. Please download and install

I tried everything you suggested and it still will not go wireless.  Have to use USB cable.  I must have done it about four times because I see it four times.  I'm planning to delete them.  Is that a good idea?  I don't know what else to do.  Century Link says it has to be solved by HP.  Thanks for all your help, but guess I'll just have to keep the USB cord.  However, I am saddened because I cannot see my pictures and documents.  Any further suggestions for me before I give up?  🙂
