Hello @Billphil121, and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
The flashing yellow exclamation mark (!) on the HP Smart Tank 5000 series usually indicates an attention or error condition that needs to be resolved before printing can continue. Let's walk through the steps to troubleshoot and get your printer working again:
Check for Paper or Ink Issues
- Paper Jam: Open the input/output trays and check for any jammed paper.
- Low Ink: Make sure all ink tanks are filled to the recommended levels.
- Ink System Initialization: If this is a new printer, ensure the ink system was properly initialized. Refer to HP Smart Tank 5000 Setup Guide for help.
Check the Control Panel Icons
- The yellow "!" may be accompanied by other icons (e.g., paper, ink, Wi-Fi). Note any additional lights or blinking patterns. HP Smart Tank Printers - Blinking lights and error codes | HP® Support
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall and printer.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Update Firmware
- Outdated firmware can cause printing issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer | undefined
Check for Print Queue Issues
- On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer > See what's printing.
- Cancel any stuck print jobs.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
