There is a picture of the color printhead with the flashing exclamation point indicating an error. It is not an ink error but I can't find any information on what else to try to fix it. Please help! Thank you.

Hi @Gingerly219,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a printhead error on your HP Smart Tank 7001 printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button, and unplug the power cord from the printer and the power outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the power outlet, and turn the printer back on.

Inspect the Printhead:

  • Open the printer's top cover and carefully remove the printhead.
  • Check the contacts on the printhead and inside the printer for any debris or obstructions.
  • Reinsert the printhead firmly into its slot, ensuring it is properly seated.

Clean the Printhead:

  • If possible, use the printer's control panel to initiate a printhead cleaning cycle.
  • Follow the printer's instructions for cleaning the printhead. This may involve running a cleaning utility or using the printer's touchscreen menu.

Update Firmware and Software:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can check for updates through the printer's control panel or HP's support website.
  • Update the HP Smart app or printer software on your computer to the latest version.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, there may be a hardware problem with the printhead or printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
