HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One

I just purchased the Smart Tank 7005 - I have set it up to print but now have an open door warning and an orange warning light on the control panel. The carriage for the print heads does not move to the centre when I open the top  and so I can't remove and replace the print heads as has been suggested elsewhere.

Hi @Artyjamie

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue, but don't worry—let's work through this step by step to resolve the open door warning and get the printhead carriage moving:

Step 1: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds to allow the printer to fully reset.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Open the top cover to see if the carriage moves to the center.

Step 2: Check for Obstructions

  1. Open the printer's top cover and inspect the carriage area for any obstructions, such as packaging materials or debris.
  2. Remove any visible obstructions carefully.
  3. Close the cover and reopen it to see if the carriage moves.

Step 3: Manually Move the Carriage

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the top cover and gently try to move the carriage to the center using your hand. Apply light pressure—do not force it.
  3. Once the carriage is in the center, plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Step 4: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
  • Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

Step 5: Reset the Printer

  1. Access the printer's control panel and navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset and reconfigure the printer.

I hope these steps help you resolve the problem and get your printer working smoothly. Let me know how it goes or if you need further guidance! 😊
