Hi @Mickey2025

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7602 is stuck in a loop where the display keeps flashing as if it's printing, but nothing happens. Since you've already checked the printheads, ink levels, and carriage movement, let's go through some troubleshooting steps.

Steps to Fix HP Smart Tank 7602 Printhead Malfunction

1. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Remove and Reseat the Printheads

  • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
  • Remove both printheads and inspect them for any dried ink or debris.
  • Clean the electrical contacts using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Let them dry completely before reinstalling.

3. Perform a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle twice to clear any clogged nozzles.

4. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP’s official troubleshooting page here and download the latest firmware update for your printer.
  • Install the update and restart the printer.

5. Verify Printhead Error Messages

  • If the printer display shows which printhead is malfunctioning, try replacing that specific printhead.
