HP Smart app causes persistent flickering on Word print page, preventing me from being able to print.  I can't change the margin sizes, set the # of copies I want, etc.  Because it appears that HP Smart app is constantly changing from "finding available printers" to the default printer (which is my HP 8035e).  It sucks to think I have to try to save my document as a PDF every time I want to print a word doc.  Any fixes out there?

@pllll, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Flickering Issue on Word Print Page with HP Smart App!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the HP Smart app is causing persistent flickering on the Word print page due to constantly searching for available printers, which disrupts your printing process. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Update HP Smart App and Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that both the HP Smart app and your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can check for updates in the respective app stores for the HP Smart app and on the HP support website for printer drivers.

Disable Printer Search Feature:

  • If the HP Smart app has a "finding available printers" feature, consider disabling it or setting your default printer manually to prevent the app from constantly searching.

Set Your Printer as Default:

  • Set your HP 8035e printer as the default printer in Windows settings to reduce unnecessary changes in printing configurations.
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Find your HP printer, click on it, and select Set as default.

Print Directly from Word:

  • Instead of using the HP Smart app, try printing directly from Microsoft Word. You can adjust printing settings such as margins and number of copies within Word itself before sending the print job.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the network. A stable connection can reduce issues with the app constantly searching for printers.

Reset HP Smart App:

  • Try resetting the HP Smart app. This can be done by uninstalling and reinstalling the app. It may help clear out any potential bugs or issues causing the flickering.

Print as PDF:

  • As a temporary workaround, you can save your Word documents as PDF files and print them using the HP Smart app. Although this adds an extra step, it can help you avoid the flickering issue.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
