HP Smart Tank 515 Wireless All-in-One

the print quality on my smart tank 515 is horrible. I aligned, cleansed, etc the whole 9. I took the printer to HP support and they told me to buy new print heads and replace them. They didn’t have them so I bought them online.

now I’m trying to follow the directions (turn on, open door) but the heads won’t move automatically to the center and looking here it says “they don’t need to be replaced”, but I’m following HP Reps recommendation.
Is there a way to trigger the replacement from the app or buttons on the printer? I have the heads (following step by step on the paper instructions I opened them) so might as well change them to see if it fixes the printer quality.

Hi @Omar_555,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration with the print quality issue on your HP Smart Tank 515 printer. If the print heads are not aligning to the center automatically as expected, you can try the following steps to manually move them.

  • Turn on the printer: Ensure that your printer is powered on.
  • Open the printer door: Open the door or cover where the print heads are usually accessible.
  • Manually move the print heads: Look for the print heads and see if there's a lever or latch that allows you to manually move the print heads. Some printers have a button or lever that releases the print heads, allowing you to slide them into the center position.
  • Refer to the printer manual: Check the printer manual or any included documentation that came with the replacement print heads. There may be specific instructions on how to manually position the print heads for replacement.
  • Check the printer settings: Explore the printer's menu or settings using the control panel on the printer. Look for any options related to print head replacement or maintenance. Some printers allow you to initiate print head replacement through the menu.
  • Use the HP Smart App: If you have the HP Smart App installed on your device, check if there are options within the app to initiate print head replacement or perform maintenance tasks.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
