Print quality has become fuzzy. Attempts to improve it included cleaning and aligning print heads. Printer then says it has a paper jam despite no paper being in it. Tried to shut down the printer but it refuses to shut down.

Hi @Richardfnj,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 7605 is experiencing multiple issues. Here’s a step-by-step guide to address each problem:

1. Printer Won’t Shut Down

If your printer won’t shut down normally, try the following:

  • Force a Shutdown:
    1. Turn Off the Printer:
      • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds. This should force the printer to turn off.
    2. Unplug the Printer:
      • If the power button method doesn’t work, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer. Wait for about 1-2 minutes before plugging it back in.

2. Print Quality Issues

Since you’ve already tried cleaning and aligning the print heads, try the following additional steps:

Check Ink Levels:

  • Ensure that the ink tanks are full and that the ink cartridges are correctly installed. Low or improperly installed ink can affect print quality.

Perform a Print Head Cleaning:

  • Use the printer’s maintenance menu to run a more thorough print head cleaning process. This option is usually found in the printer’s settings or maintenance menu.

Print Quality Diagnostic Report:

  • Some printers offer diagnostic reports or print quality tests that can help identify print quality issues. Check your printer’s manual or settings menu for this feature.

3. Paper Jam Error

If the printer is showing a paper jam error despite no paper being present, try the following:

Check for Obstructions:

  1. Open All Access Panels:
    • Open the paper tray, ink cartridge access area, and any other accessible panels. Look for any small pieces of paper or foreign objects that might be causing the error.
  2. Check the Paper Path:
    • Examine the paper path for any jammed paper or debris. Sometimes, small bits of paper can cause issues even if they’re not immediately visible.

Reset the Printer:

  • After checking for obstructions and clearing any found, perform a reset as mentioned in the “Printer Won’t Shut Down” section.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
