Hi @Funkyecat,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I see that you are having issues with HP Solution center not showing the ink level. Solution center is an older software and hence may not be compatible with the new Windows 10 environment.

I would suggest you use HP Scan and Capture application to scan using your Windows 10 system. HP Scan and Capture is a simple application that captures photos or documents from an HP scanning device or your computer's built-in camera.  These images can be previewed, edited, saved, and shared to other applications as well.

Go to http://hp.care/2bUVkrw to download and install the Windows Scan and Capture app.

Alternatively, you can try these steps to install HP Solution center to check if it helps to find the ink level.

The HP solution center is for older printer models and hence has a compatibility issue while running in Windows 10 environment. The issue might have been caused by recent updates on your computer. I would suggest you a workaround by changing the compatibility on the drivers. Follow the steps below (Check the fig below for ref):

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them. (Including the HP solution center)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Go to http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/djF300/AIO_CDB_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_140_408-4.exe and download and save the full feature driver file (Do not run the file, just download and save it to your desktop or download folder)
  • Now go to the download location, right-click on the driver file and select “Properties”.
  • Under “Compatibility” tab, check the box which says “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select “Windows 8” (In fig, I have selected Windows 7, but make sure you select Windows 8).
  • Also, select the box “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Apply and save the settings.
  • Now double-click and run the program.

That should get the solution center working. Let me know!

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Where  do I look to find the status of my ink cartridges:  how full they are, etc.?

Hi @loubax,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand you would like to know how to check the status of the ink cartridges by printing self test page from the printer.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.

Still will not display ink level. It may be the ink cartridge(s). It works fine otherwise. I will find out when I change them

Hi @Funkyecat,

As I understand you are still having issues with the ink level. Don't worry as I have found a wonderful document which help you troubleshoot this issue. For more please follow this link: Color Image Prints in Black and White

Step three: Print a self-test page

If the Print in grayscale option is not the problem and the print cartridges are not low on ink, print and evaluate a self-test page to determine if the cartridges or printer is causing the problem.

  1. Load the input tray with unused plain white paper.

  2. Press and hold the Cancel () button and then press the Start Copy Color () button.

  3. Release both buttons. The self-test page prints.

Step four: Note which cartridges printed which areas of the self-test page

You must identify which cartridge printed which part of the self-test page, so that if you find defects on the page, you will know which cartridge is the problem.

However, you can install different combinations of print cartridges in your printer, and different cartridge combinations print different self-test page patterns. Your self-test page may not look exactly like the picture below, but the right and left cartridges will print in the same areas of the page no matter which cartridges are installed.

  2. Printed by the left cartridge

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
