The energy saving feature and sleep mode are incredibly frustrating. I don't use the printer every day and because the settings don't allow you to turn off either or both of these features, the printer will inevitably go into sleep mode.  That means that EVERYTIME I need to use the printer, I have to walk over to the printer, unplug and then plug it in, so it can reset and turn back on. It is incredibly annoying.

Hi @SPolo11,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the sleep mode on your HP Smart Tank 7300 is causing significant frustration. Unfortunately, some HP printers don’t have an option to disable sleep mode, as this feature is designed to save energy when the printer is idle. However, you can try a few things to reduce the impact.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Update Firmware: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. HP releases updates that may include fixes for sleep mode issues. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP Support website.

Power Settings Adjustments:

  • Although there may not be a way to fully disable sleep mode, check the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app to see if you can extend the sleep timer.
  • Some models allow you to set a longer duration before sleep mode kicks in.

Network Wake-Up Option:

  • If your printer is connected to the network, ensure that "Network Wake-Up" or "Wake on LAN" is enabled. This should allow the printer to wake up when you send a print job without having to physically restart it.

Static IP Address: Sometimes printers fail to wake up due to IP address changes when they reconnect to the network after sleep mode. Assigning a static IP to the printer can prevent this.

Reset Printer to Factory Defaults: If none of the above work, you could try performing a factory reset. Keep in mind this will erase any custom settings, but it can help resolve persistent issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
