I inserted a new HP certified cartridge in my HP Envy 5532 and it generated the message "incompatible cartridge".  These cartridges are not cheap and, having tried all other possible solutions, the only remedy seems to be to purchase a new cartridge.  I think it is appalling that an HP certified product does not work with the HP printer.

Hi @RJ1002,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your HP Envy 5532 and the certified cartridges. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the "incompatible cartridge" message:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Double-check that the cartridge model matches your printer's requirements. For the Envy 5532, ensure you're using the correct series (like 62 or 64).

2. Remove and Reinsert Cartridges

  • Turn off the printer, remove the cartridges, and then gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth. Reinsert them securely.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Use the HP Smart app or check the HP website for any available updates.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Sometimes, a reset can resolve compatibility issues:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it for about 60 seconds.
    2. Plug it back in and turn it on.

5. Use HP Smart App for Troubleshooting

  • Open the HP Smart app, and see if there are any troubleshooting options available that can help resolve the cartridge issue.

6. Try Another Cartridge

  • If possible, try another new HP cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the specific cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
