All of a sudden my HP Officejet pro 8715 stopped wanting to print either using the computer or the phone, I checked online and the only solution was to restore the printer back to factory settings.

Before doing that I noticed that printer also said that many of the features were locked by the one who set up the printer, which was me. I also read that restoring the printer back to factory settings it would unlock all those features previously locked. Well after resetting everything back to factory settings I now have the issue of the features that I need unlocked are still locked. I can not set up my network settings so right now this printer is useless to me unless someone can please help me get this back up and running.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @kimmist1963,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer completely and unplug it from the power source for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • This step often helps reset internal processes and can resolve temporary glitches.

Check the Printer's Lock Status

  • On your printer's control panel (the touchscreen), navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Go to Security or System Preferences and look for any options related to "Lock Features" or "Administrator Settings."
  • If there's an admin password set, you may need to enter it to unlock the features. If you don’t remember setting up a password, try using the default password (typically 12345678 or 00000000).

Network Setup

  • Since you're unable to set up network settings, let's try to manually reset the network settings:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Network or Wireless Settings.
    • Look for an option to Restore Network Defaults or Reset Network Settings. This will erase any saved network configurations.
    • After that, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. You can either use the Wireless Setup Wizard or manually enter the network settings.

Firmware Update

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer or Check for Updates.
    • You may need to connect the printer to a computer or a mobile device via USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet if it's still unable to connect to the network.

Use HP Smart App

  • Download the HP Smart App on your smartphone or computer if you haven't already.
  • Open the app and try to set up your printer through the app. The app will automatically detect the printer and guide you through the steps to reconfigure it for your Wi-Fi network.
  • If the printer still shows features as locked, try performing the setup process directly through the app.

Reset to Factory Settings Again

  • If the steps above don’t work, try a second factory reset but make sure you double-check the reset steps. Sometimes a reset can be incomplete if there are firmware issues:
    • From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
    • Touch Printer Maintenance.
    • Touch Restore.
    • Touch Restore Factory Defaults. A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
    • Touch Restore

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
