Expired HP inks will not work after firmware update. All you have to do is downgrade the firmware back to what it was. You can Google where to download the firmware package. Then stop the auto update for good.  I have been using HP inkjet printer for over 20 years now. This one will be my last. They are now on my bad list forever after this insistent.  Will buy another brand from now on.

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

 

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device. 

4) Select the country from the drop-down. 

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences. 

6) Fill out the webform and proceed further.

 

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes, you may use this link to find the phone number of the regional HP Support team: HP Phone Assist Worldwide

Same here.  I did not get a recommended fix.  It is a poor way of doing business.  The outside packaging of the cartridges should have a disclaimer indicating that cartridges beyond the expiration date will not be usable.
