Hello
My officejet suddenly has a message on the touchpad that says "printer not responding" the blue internet wifi is also flashing.
I have tried turning it off, unplugging it, resetting the router to the internet, but nothing works. Once I power it on and it shows that message I can no longer use the touch screen at all. I cant try to connect another wifi network or even disconnect the current one.
Please help!

Hi @Debrabrandt04,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the connectivity.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 5740 is having trouble with its network connection. Since the touchscreen is unresponsive, we'll need to try some alternative methods to reset and reconnect your printer. Here are a few steps you can try:
Hard Reset the Printer
- Turn off the Printer: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it's still on.
- Wait for 60 seconds: This will allow any residual power to drain from the printer.
- Plug the Power Cord Back In: Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer. Check if the error message persists.
Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and Install HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free tool provided by HP to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems.
- Run the Tool: Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix issues with your printer.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi Using WPS
- Router WPS Button: Locate the WPS button on your router (usually on the back or side).
- Printer Wi-Fi Button: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until it starts blinking.
- Press the Router WPS Button: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router. This should automatically reconnect your printer to the network.
Factory Reset the Printer
If the above steps do not work and the touchscreen remains unresponsive, you may need to perform a factory reset. Note that this will erase all settings and return the printer to its default state.
- Turn Off the Printer: Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Press and Hold the Touchscreen: While holding the touchscreen, plug the power cord back in.
- Release the Touchscreen: When you see the HP logo appear, release the touchscreen. The printer should enter its reset mode.
- Follow On-Screen Instructions: If the touchscreen becomes responsive, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer again.
Reconnect the Printer to Your Network
- Use the Printer’s Control Panel: If the touchscreen is now responsive, go to the network settings and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Use HP Smart App: Alternatively, you can use the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer to set up the printer on your network.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with the printer's touchscreen or network module. In such a case, contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance or repair might be necessary.
