HP officejet 8710 can print from itself or from hp smart but NOT WORD.

I have an HP Officejet 8710. I can print reports from the printer itself, or on laptop from hp smart, but I cannot print from WORD.

Word requires the full driver printer software ---

True - HP Smart understands PDF and Photo / Image files.

Possible causes of the issue might include one or more of

• The full driver printer software is not installed
• The full driver printer software is installed -- the driver is corrupted and needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled
• The full driver printer software is installed and functional -- the driver is not selected in Printer Properties or the Printer is not selected in the job configuration

The full driver printer software adds support to print in other programs - for example, Word, other "Office" software, and Adobe Reader.

Reinstall the full driver printer software

Uninstall existing printer software

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.

Install full driver printer software

• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Download, Save, and Install

• Download and Save the installation package to your computer.
• Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the file, likely Downloads
• Right-Click on the installation file and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
• If using a USB cable to connect the printer to your computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the software installation process.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

            What about HP Scan?

After the installation is complete -

The full driver will be listed in Programs and Features AND in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps (Windows 11)

Next,

• The full driver printer software will have added one or more "container" shortcuts on the Desktop:

• Printer Assistant - named for the printer model

OR

On newer printers and when the new full driver printer software no longer supports the Printer Assistant:

• Scan Assistant - named for itself

AND

• The full driver printer software, once installed, will have added a shortcut icon for HP Scan. 

NOTE > Model Dependent

The shortcut for HP Scan that is part of the full driver might be named for the printer model.
