HP OFFICEJET PRO 8610 PRINTER
Microsoft Windows XP

My NEW HP Officejet Pro 8610 Printer will not accept my generic remanufactured ink cartridges.

My previous printer did "HP OfficeJet Pro 8600" accepted these remanufactured generic ink cartridges but the feed rollers were giving out after 16 months, so I bought another printer from HP. There were no 8600's to be found, so I looked into the 8610 and saw that it accepted the ink I had been using in the past "HP OfficeJet 951", and since I had many remaining remanufactured ink cartridges still remaining, I opted to purchase this new one. This is an earlier model, but very simiilar.

Now this printer is not accepting the ink at all. All these prompts I am getting. With the 8600 I got prompts also, but then it worked, but here it will not work and says:

"One or more cartridges appears to be damaged. Remove them and replace with new cartridges".

I have put in (3 total) two different times, and the previously unopened cartridges are rejected.

The newer model, the 8600 accepted them eventually, but the older model, the 8610 will not.

Is there anyone out here who has any helpful assistance?

Otherwise, I am just going to have to return this for an entire refund for this and my 2 year extended warranty.

Thank you.

I am sorry. I guess I wasn't clear.
the printer had just exhausted all 3 color hp ink cartridges one after another. The same time.
it only rejected the remanufactured ink cartridges when they were first introduced to the 8610. And these never gave me any trouble with my previous 8600. Please reread my post you responded to adafafter you read this to refresh your memory because this is where myfrustrations lie. Why on my 8600 printer do they work. Yet the 8610, the older model, and my newly purchased printer rejects those remanufactured cartridges???
Thank you.

I regret buying the HP officejet pro 8610.  First, even tho I only use black, I have to purchase color cartridges to make the machine work.  Second, it will not accept remanufactured cartridges.  I just went through a month of agony sending back remanufactured cartridges because HP changed the firmware and the ink won't work anymore  So I waited a few weeks until they got the new corrected cartridges in and they won't work either.  The HP original cartridges are so insanely expensive it will make more sense for me to sell the printer for 1/3 of what I paid for it on Craigslist and start over with a printer that will accept remanufactured cartridges and one that can use all black.

I'm switching  back to Brother.  Always good.

We're basically all screwed.  HP knows when generic cartridges are in and will shut down after a while when they're in.  You'll get a printer failure call HP support message.  The generic sellers are trying to come up with chips that can beat HP but I've not seen that.  If you put real HP cartridges in the printer will work.

Personally, I am willing to void my warranty in exchange for being able to use the cheaper ink.

Sucks.

I sold my 7 month old hp printer because if this and bought a brother. Then the same thing happened with the brother. Views remanufactured cartridges for years. Having to buy namebrand now. These big companies figured out how to beat manufacturers at their game

I will not buy another HP for forcing me to purchase its higher cost products. I'm pretty steamed up. I have new $90 dollars in cartridges and my 8600 won't print. I did get constant error messages that I was using non-HP but now won't print.

I do not like to forced to do something. I should be able to save money as I choose. This big monster of a printer is ready for the can. Also, the idea that I need to replace the color at the samne time as black is also controlling.

No more HP. Back to Cannon, and I'll choose a printer that I control, not that it controls me including my budget!

That is because HP has done a firmware update that makes sure the printers will no longer allow re-manufactured ink. The big problem is that you can't change it once the update is done. They aren't going to give us a fix either because they want to force us to pay for genuine HP cartridges. It would be understandable if they were bad but they aren't. By law they can't void your warranty either for using re-manufactured ink. I can give the statute if needed. I am in law school and done a whole lot of research regarding this issue.

We know this already and that is where the problem lies! There is nothing wrong with using re-manufactured ink except HP wouldn't be getting business. The firmware updates will no longer allow anything except HP ink cartridges and the price is ridiculous for the HP ink cartridges.  So don't tell us to use the HP ink we know it will work. I will never buy another HP product period!! So NO I WON"T CLICK ON YOUR STUPID THUMB!
