HP Photosmart 7520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I replaced all of my ink cartridges using HP recommended 564 Cartridges. My printer would not print. I disconnected all power source from my desktop PC and from the printer. Printer is set up for wireless use and I have printed from my desktop, smart phone, laptop and tablet. When I reconnected all power the printing resumed, but documents with black lettering will not print at all, e.g., a simple letter. Documents with pictures and color lettering will print, but some of the lettering in black will not print. When I print a Print Quality Report one of the black ink columns prints no color, just blank white. I believe it is the Photo Black Cartridge.

Hi @rrdavis41,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and want to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the HP printer not printing in black. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you tried to clean the ink cartridge contacts as well as the print head?

Have you tried to use the old ink cartridge and check if that helps?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

I would suggest you follow the steps mentioned here to fix this issue: HP Photosmart 7520 Printers - Fixing Poor Print Quality

Start with step 9 and 10.

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would suggest this could be an issue with the printer itself, however, I would suggest here is to try with an old set of cartridges and check if that works.

If the other set of cartridges also does not help in printing black, this could be an issue with the printer. I would recommend you could contact our HP phone support for available service related options.
