I have a Word document with a B&W photo inserted into it.  The photo looks fine in print preview, but it prints as shades of gray without any image.  It only happens with this photo; other photos print fine.  And this photo prints fine from my photo editor, just not from Word or any other MS Office program.  Has anyone encountered this before?  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. I’m afraid it didn’t work, but I seem to have stumbled onto a solution.  As an experiment, I converted my picture from a JPG file to a BMP file, and now the Word file prints normally.  I don’t know why that made a difference, but I’m glad I can get on with my life.

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are unable to print photos from word document on HP Officejet 4630 printer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • How is the printer connected to the computer, USB or wireless?
  • When did this issue start?
  • Did you do any hardware or software changes?

Meanwhile:

You can refer to this link which has helped other customers on HP Forum with the similar issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Thanks for trying to help.  To answer your questions,

  • How is the printer connected to the computer, USB or wireless?
    • Wireless
  • When did this issue start?
    • A few days ago.  I downloaded some photos from a web site.  They print just fine from my photo editor, but when I insert them into a Word file, they won't print.  They aren't particularly large files, just 100 KB or so.  They are jpg files, and I don't have any problem with other jpg files in my Word documents.
  • Did you do any hardware or software changes?
    • No

Would it help if I sent you one of the photos?

Thanks again for any help you can provide.

Hi @MikeJ56,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue is only with printing one particular photo from the word application.

I suggest that you make sure that in Word Options, Display tab the “Print Drawings created in Word” option is checked.

You may also follow the steps listed below for this issue:

1. Click the Office Button and choose "Print."

2. Click the "Options" button at the bottom of the "Print" dialog box. The "Word Options" dialog box opens with the "Display" tab selected in the left pane.

3. Scroll to the "Printing options" section.

4. Check "Print drawings created in Word."

5. Check "Print background colors and images" and click "OK."

Let me know if this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I have been having the same issue.  This solution (changing pictures to BMP) really worked for me.
