HP pro 8210 printer in constant initialization mode and the power button is not functional. The only way I can get the printer power button to work is if I lift the lid slightly as if I'm going to replace ink cartridges. This is so annoying on a brand new printer. Is it defective or can it be fixed?

We’re pleased to have you here at the HP Support Community.

  1. Hard Reset:

    • Turn off the printer by unplugging the power cord from the back of the printer. Ensure the printer is completely powered off.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet as well.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
    • Turn the printer on.
  2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

    • Open all doors and access panels to ensure there's no paper jam or obstruction.
    • Close the access doors securely after checking.
  3. Check Cartridge Installation:

    • Since you mentioned that lifting the lid seems to reset the power button functionality, double-check that the ink cartridges are properly seated.
    • Remove and then reinstall the cartridges to ensure they're positioned correctly.
  4. Inspect the Lid or Access Door Sensors:

    • The sensors that detect whether the lid or access door is closed might not be functioning properly.
    • Ensure that the lid and doors are closing securely and evenly without any obstruction.
  5. Update Printer Firmware:

    • Visit the HP support website to check if there's a firmware update available. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve initialization issues.
  6. Factory Reset:

    • If the printer allows it, perform a factory reset through the printer's control panel.

Please let us know if these steps bring your printer back to life, or reach out to us again, and we’ll guide you through the next steps to get it fully operational.
