My HP2710 printer starts to print but a few lines but then goes into an error and the page is ejected.  All the lights flash.  If I then press the start button the error message changes to printing and the document prints.   This means that I am having to print everything twice and am using up my HP ink allowance.    I have tried pulling all the connections out and holding the start button to get rid of excess charge .   It's plugged in at the wall with no surge protector; I've rebooted both the router and the pc it's connected to but can't solve the problem.

Hi @MusicGranny ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 2710 All-in-One Printer could be due to a communication error, driver issue, or a hardware fault. Since you've already tried resetting the power and checking connections, here are some additional troubleshooting steps:

1. Check for Print Spooler Issues

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click it, and choose Restart.
  • Try printing again.

2. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Follow the steps to detect and fix errors.

3. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall the current printer driver:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your HP DeskJet 2710 and select Remove device.
  • Reinstall using HP Smart:
    • Download and install HP Smart.
    • Re-add the printer and test printing.

4. Check Print Queue and Clear Pending Jobs

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click on your HP DeskJet 2710, then Open queue.
  • Cancel any stuck print jobs and try printing again.

5. Check Paper and Ink Cartridges

  • Make sure you're using genuine HP ink cartridges.
  • Remove and reinsert the cartridges.
  • Check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer.

6. Disable Bidirectional Support (Windows)

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  • Under the Ports tab, uncheck "Enable bidirectional support."
  • Click OK and restart your PC.

7. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds until the Power light blinks.
  • This resets the printer to its default settings.
  • Reconnect the printer and test.

8. Try a Different Connection Method

  • If using WiFi, try switching to USB and see if the issue persists.
  • If using USB, try another port or cable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
