HP ENVY 4502 e-All-in-One Printer

My HP printer won't connect to wifi. Error message: incorrect network password. I've confirmed the password, changed it, tried different wifi networks, restarted the system, etc. Trying to see if I'm missing anything. I've read the printer may not connect to my router's wifi frequency. I'm unsure how to identify the router frequency.

Thank you

Hi @tk947,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to resolve the issue with your HP ENVY 4502 e-All-in-One Printer not connecting to Wi-Fi, the incorrect network password error might stem from the router’s frequency band. Many modern routers operate on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, and printers often have trouble connecting to the 5 GHz band. Here’s what you can do:

1. Identify Your Router’s Frequency Bands:

  • Check Your Router’s Settings: Log in to your router’s configuration page (usually accessible via a web browser at an IP address like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). The login information should be on the router or in the manual.
  • Look for the Wireless Settings Section: This will tell you if the router is broadcasting on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. You may see settings like "Dual Band" or "2.4 GHz and 5 GHz." Make sure both are enabled.
  • Router Frequency Identification: Often, the 2.4 GHz network name (SSID) is different from the 5 GHz network. For example, the 5 GHz network might have _5G added to the name.

2. Switch to 2.4 GHz:

Since the printer is more likely to connect to the 2.4 GHz band, try connecting your HP ENVY 4502 to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Here’s how:

  • On your printer’s control panel: Navigate to Wi-Fi settings and select the 2.4 GHz network (if listed separately).
  • Enter your password: Ensure you’re entering the correct password for the 2.4 GHz network.

3. Check for Router Interference:

Some routers may have a setting that mixes the two frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). If your router is using a "Smart Connect" feature that automatically assigns devices to either band, consider disabling that feature temporarily to make sure your printer connects only to the 2.4 GHz band.

4. Restart Everything:

After confirming the correct network settings:

  • Restart your router: This can often resolve connection issues.
  • Restart your printer: Power cycle the printer by turning it off and on.
  • Restart your computer: This can sometimes help the printer connect properly.

5. Reset the Network Settings on the Printer:

If you're still having trouble, you might want to reset the network settings on your printer and try the setup again:

  • On the printer’s control panel: Go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults. This will erase the saved Wi-Fi settings, and you’ll need to set it up again from scratch.

6. Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup): Connect an HP printer using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

If your router supports WPS, you can try this method:

  • On the printer: Press the WPS button (usually found in the Wi-Fi settings).
  • On your router: Press the WPS button within 2 minutes. This will establish a connection without needing to enter the network password.

Let me know if this helps or if you're encountering any additional errors!
