HP 7740 won't print, have reinstalled software, trouble shooting etc. Printer shows "printing" but never completes, diagnostics won't solve "driver" problem. HP smart and esay start wont resolve?

Hello @vinnied57, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer shows "printing" but never completes the job, and HP Smart and Easy Start haven't resolved the issue. Let's walk through a few targeted steps to fix this:

Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power it on and retry printing.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer Driver (Clean Install)

Sometimes remnants of old drivers cause issues. Here's how to do a clean reinstall:

Uninstall Existing Drivers

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP 7740 and select Remove device.
  • Open Programs and Features and uninstall any HP printer software.

Reinstall Using HP Easy Start

Check Print Spooler Service

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click > Restart.
  • Ensure its Startup Type is set to Automatic.

Try Printing from Another App or Device

  • Test printing from Notepad or WordPad.
  • If possible, try printing from a mobile device using the HP Smart app.

Firmware Update (if applicable)

Outdated firmware can cause print jobs to hang.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
