I was getting a cartridge error on my HP 8610 no matter how many ink cartridges I installed. I came here and saw a post from an HP employee suggest a hard reset, unplugging, holding the power button and restarting. I did that and now I’m getting the same error message but now when I open the door, the Printhead doesn’t move AT ALL. It is stuck in the right position, and the touch screen has become completely unresponsive. So now I have a useless printer and nearly $150 dollars in ink cartridges I can’t even remove. Anyone have any suggestions for how to get out of this mess?

Hi @LJORDIL,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've encountered a challenging situation with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
Power Cycle and Connection:
- Ensure the printer is properly connected to the power source.
- Try a power cycle: Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. This may help reset the internal components.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer. Paper jams can sometimes cause issues with the printhead movement.
Manually Move the Printhead:
- Turn off the printer.
- Gently move the printhead manually to see if it's stuck. Be very careful not to force it, and make sure there are no obstructions.
Remove Ink Cartridges:
- Open the printer cover and remove all ink cartridges.
- Check for any obstructions or debris around the printhead path.
- Reinstall the ink cartridges and close the cover.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Disconnect the power source.
- Wait for about 2-3 minutes.
- Reconnect the power source and plug the power cord back in.
- Turn on the printer.
Update Firmware/Software:
- Make sure your printer firmware and software are up-to-date. You can check the HP website for the latest updates and install them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
