My computer says that my HO Officejet Pro 8610 printer is offline.
It is showing as connected on the printer screen, but says that it is offline on the computer.
When I check the internet connection screen, it says "no internet, open" and there is also a shield logo next to the signal sign.
I have disconnected everything and re-connected as suggested on the web.
I have also de-installed and re-installed the printer.
It was fine until the end of last week.
The only thing that has changed in the house, is that I have put in a signal booster as I can´t get wifi upstairs.
I have also done a full Kaspersky security scan on my computer.
One thing I have to say is that I do not consider myself computer literate. I can work everything fine if it does what it is supposed to do, but when there is a problem, I have no idea what to do. Computer jargon is all gibberish to me. I can only deal with ´on´ and ´off´.
Your help would be most appreciated.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

As I understand, the printer is showing offline,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
When was the last time it worked fine?
Were there any hardware/software changes made?
I understand where you come from. I am quite sure that you excel in what you do for a living and I would be a layman there. This is my domain and I will be delighted to assist you. These steps are not rocket science and do not require Sherlock Holmes to crack it 😉
Let's try this troubleshooting
Step 1: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
If you have Windows 10 or 8, download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions. Skip to the next step if your computer does not have Windows 10 or 8.
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Click Fix Printing.
If the printer continues to go offline, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Reset the print environment
Resetting your printing environment can restore the connection to the printer and the device yo are printing from.
Turn the printer off, wait about 10 seconds, and then disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
Turn off the computer or device that you are trying to print from.
Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer if it does not automatically power on.
If your printer uses a wireless connection, restart the router.
Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router.
NOTE: Internet service is interrupted while the router is not in service.
Wait 10 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the router.
Wait for the router’s network activity light to become active.
Press the wireless button or wireless control panel icon on the printer to turn the wireless connection off, and then on.
Wait for the printer to reconnect to your router.
Turn on the computer.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Try to print.
If you can print, you are done.
If the printer cannot print and remains offline, continue.
Try these steps from the link: https://hp.care/2ylIMTf.
Step 3: Set the default printer
Other things to try
Connect to a proper wireless network
Update the printer firmware
Reinstall the printer software
You could also try assigning a static IP address and a manual DNS address:
* Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
* Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
* Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
* Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
* Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Let me know how this goes,
For I shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,
And your device is up and running again,
Have a great day 🙂
Cheers 🙂

Hi Flower_Bud
I am sorry for the delay in replying to you, but I have had difficulty logging into my account. I don´t know whether the computer is trying to tell me something, as it has been a pain in the backside all week.
Thank you for your response to my problem, I appreciate your assistance.
I had already tried that but it still did not work.
I have de-installed the printer and re-installed and it is working now.
No idea what could have caused this problem as the printer was showing connection to the internet, but it did not seem to be pairing up with the computer.
At least I am all up and running for the time being, until the computer decides it is time to test my patience again.
Many thanks.
Pete

I have the same problem and nave tried all the solutions. I have turned off router and printer, i have deleted and reinstalled the 8610. I have run everything I can think of and it stays off-line. Any other suggestions or do I just need to buy a new printer?

Could you please help me with the operating system of the computer?
Meanwhile, Run the wireless test
To check that the wireless connection is working properly, print the wireless test report.
1. Make sure the printer is turned on and paper is loaded in the tray.
2. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and then touch Setup.
3. Touch Print Reports.
4. Touch Print Wireless Test Report.
If the test fails, review the report for information on how to fix the problem and run the test again.
Restore the printer to the original network settings
1. From the printer control panel, touch and slide your finger across the screen, touch Setup, and then touch Network Setup.
2. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then touch Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.
3. Touch OK.
4. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.
Try connecting the printer back to the network.
Keep me posted, how it goes!

I tried everything. I even deleted and re-installed the original software from the disk, Then I went back go the menu on my desktop and, in desperation, just clicked Add a Printer and that solved the problem. I think I am done with this printer as it is an older one and will get a new one. This is he second time this has happened and it occurs when there is a hard shutdown like a power outage. Thanks for the advice.
