I would like to borderless print with this new printer.
I tried this
But I do not get the option of Printing preferences on the general tab
I had a 6800 and I have never had this problem before. It is pretty disappointing and sub-standard.
This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are having issues in printing borderless with HP Officejet pro 8710 printer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
- Click the Start button.
- Click Settings and select Control Panel.
- Click the Printers and Faxes icon.
- Right-click the HP OfficeJet 8710 icon and select Properties.
- On the General tab, click Printing Preferences to open the Printing Preferences dialog box.
- On the Printing Shortcuts tab, select Photo printing-borderless as the type of document, and then select the following options:
- Print quality: Normal, Best, or Max dpi.
- Paper size: Select the appropriate borderless photo paper size.
- Paper type: Select the appropriate photo paper type.
- Orientation: Portrait or Landscape.
7. Set the following options as appropriate:
- HP digital photography options
- Advanced color settings
- Color management
- Grayscale quality
8.Select any other desired print settings, and then click OK. If the image was printed on photo paper with a tear-off tab, remove the tab to make the document completely borderless.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand the printing preferences option isn't showing on your device,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Have you attempted to reinstall the drivers or update them, to resolve this issue?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, use this link https://hp.care/2B3MVQS to find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.
Let me know how that pans out

I reviewed the entire set of posts and private messages comprehensively. It is great to have you back and your commendable patience, keen resolve and attention to detail is greatly appreciated. You've displayed great technical credentials also to figure out things. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
I also did my own research in this regard. Yest what was reported by HP phone support that the A4 size does not support Borderless printing is correct.
Please check the product specifications link: https://hp.care/2H9zZNb (Printer Specifications for HP OfficeJet Pro 8700 Printers)
Look under the section that states" Paper-handling specifications"
here check the option "Supported photo paper"
- Borderless photo paper 102 x 152 mm (4.0 x 6.0 inches)
- Borderless photo paper 127 x 178 mm (5.0 x 7.0 inches)
- Borderless photo paper 203 x 254 mm (8.0 x 10.0 inches)
- Borderless photo paper 216 x 280 mm (8.5 x 11 inches)
- Borderless photo paper 100 x 150 mm (3.9 x 5.9 inches)
- Borderless photo paper 89 x 127 mm (3.5 x 5.0 inches)
- Borderless photo paper 130 x 180 mm (5.1 x 7.1 inches)
Only these photo paper sizes are supported by the printer and are compatible with it.
None of these conform to the A4 size paper whose dimensions are as follows:
A4-sized photo paper 210 x 297 mm (8.3 x 11.7 inches)
In a nutshell it is safe to state that A4 Size is not supported for borderless printing.
Hope this answers your question. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
Cheers!
