HP9130e sometimes restarts when shutting down. Checked for software updates and did a factory reset. Displays "shutting down" for 3 or 4 minutes, then restarts.

I have an OfficeJet Pro 9135e printer --
Nice machine -- Yes, seems a bit fussy at times.
If you have not done so,
Try / Consider
Perform a standard power reset - this modified version does not require you to press and hold the power button to force the printer to stop, nor does it include removing or replacing the ink cartridges --
While the printer is switched ON,
Unplug the printer for a couple of minutes
Note >> Yes, instructions say to leave the printer disconnected for 60 seconds - wait as long as you can stand it.
Plug in the printer -- best to trust a standard outlet as opposed to a wimpy sized power strip. What? Power strips that do not allow the printer to pull the amount of power it needs for certain tasks can inhibit boot and other critical functions.
Wait for the printer to completely boot - it takes a couple of minutes all told, so be patient.
Normally, the Restart does not disrupt your defaults, Quick Sets, and / or other setups.
Because of the Restore to Factory Defaults, you will need to complete the setup of the features from the start.
For others reading - an example of Restore to Factory Defaults

Thank you for your fast response and suggestions. I have followed your suggestions many times and nothing helps. I have seen this problem on 4 different OfficeJet Pro 9135e printers. This has to be a know issue with this model but so far HP does not seem to either acknowledge the problem nor be able to fix the problem. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You are welcome to the information.
Unfortunate that the simple Power Reset is not helping.
I've never had to resort to the following on my 9135e --
I cannot confirm whether it's worth the effort.
=== --- === --- === --- === --- ===
Full Printer Power Reset
1) Remove all ink cartridges from the printer
2) Unplug the power cord from printer and the wall outlet
3) Press and hold the power button down for at least 15 seconds
Next
Release the power button
Next
Wait for 30 seconds or longer
4) Attach the power cord to the printer - Plug into a standard wall outlet
5) Insert the cartridges and close the door
6) If the printer does not boot (start), press and release the ON / OFF switch to start printer

What else?
I've had very occasional issues with the printer just wandering away into the "Far Lands" and hanging.
I've never tied the problem directly to the printer software -- and Restarting, whether by power button or unplug puts things back to order.
Could the occasional issues be a result of the printer hardware, firmware, features?
Perhaps -- there is a lot to this printer -- extra security, new settings and management methods, extra features and configuration for those.
========================================
Our 9135e printer is generally protected as we think it needs be done, including the following examples.
- Stout, new-ish, excellent router for network, updated and fully configured for our network needs. Router replaced last year?
- Manual / Static IP address for the printer and other devices on the network
- Printer is configured to run in both 2.4GHz / 5GHz if Wireless is ever enabled (using Ethernet as a better, more stable option). If you are forced to use Wireless, consider running on just one or the other frequency if you think it would help.
EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_2
- Switched OFF / Not currently using User Account level control in EWS > Security > Access Control > Permissions - It works but deemed unnecessary at this time.
- Other EWS sections, including Defaults for Tray and Paper, Print and Copy Defaults configured.
- All (and only ever) HP genuine ink cartridges - personal choice and required for HP+
- Kept clean and tidy -- Previous OfficeJet Pro 9025 had a desire to be kept very clean, too.
None of this likely impacts your issue.
Observations -- FYI only
Perhaps check your power outlet -- make sure it's providing the right current at all times -- not too low and not too high. Summers are hard on the Grid where we live -- we have protection in place for all electronics (large battery backup / surge and low power protection).
If not done, consider the Restore to Factory Defaults --
Every single thing on the printer must be reconfigured after that, but it can be worth the work if it helps.
Check the Event Log in EWS
Don't read to much into this -- Errors are common.
Are errors unimportant -- I don't know -- I've stopped worrying about anything that does not actually keep the printer from working.
The Critical errors should not pile up once the Firmware is current.
AND
The Firmware might update (again) after a Restore all Factory Defaults -- sometimes settles the printer when other options have not done so.

Thank you for the excellent detailed instructions on performing a reset of the printer. I will try this procedure in the next few days and will get back to your with the results. Again, I have seen this issue with 3 other 9135e printers so I still believe that it is some type printer problem, perhaps the firmware. Just as an FYI I am using the same power sources that I have used for years with previous OfficeJet printers and never had a problem so I don't believe that it is power related on my end.

I've forwarded your concerns to our Moderators with some observations of my own about the printer.

You are welcome.
Sure, you could be right.
Could be the printer.
I do not know whether that is the case.
I don't have any actual magic for your (or any) printer --
As cautioned, my comments are all FYI and "Gee, this might be of interest."
And, you know, perhaps comments of this type are not of interest or help at all.
I've been reminded recently that unwanted suggestions might be described as "rubbish".
Smiling.
I've learned to live with my 9135e's vagaries -- and I like the printer.
I like the security, the features, and management options, and the EWS format.
That said, I've a high tolerance for fussy tech.
Few people seem to feel that way. Smiling.
Good Luck.

Dragon-Fur: Thanks for your effort, but I am also having this exact same problem: the 9135e has major issues with shutting down, and I can only conclude that this printer has big time BUGGY FIRMWARE. At one point I thought I had solved the problem by disabling the "Auto Shutdown" setting, but the problem has returned. The problem also seems to happen more often when nothing has printed for some hours. If I print something, then shutdown, it seems to work mostly reliably.
HP: PLEASE PUT YOUR ATTENTION ON SOLVING THIS PROBLEM. I called HP Support and the only advice they gave me was "do a factory reset". I've done this (and everything else in this thread) multiple times, and I continue to have this issue. I've also had at least one CRITICAL error which appeared on my printer display: C1.F3.FF.07 and of course the numerous errors in the log. HP Support refused to tell me what each of the critical and error codes meant, and I personally consider this VERY disingenuous. I have purchased the printer, you have exposed these errors in the log to me, and you should explain them. If you don't want to do that, at least allow me to talk to someone in HP Support who understands what they all mean and help me solve this problem.

I am sorry to hear that you are having the same problem but I am also glad to see that someone can confirm that this is an issue with the 9135e and HP needs to get it fixed. I have seen this problem on 4 different 9135e printers. I also have tried everything to try to resolve this issue to no avail. It appears that we will just have to wait and hope that HP will do the right thing here and first acknowledge the problem and second get this fixed as soon as possible. I tried to look at my event logs but I only see a blank screen when selecting Reports > Event Log.
