Hello! When the ink cartridges on my HP Envy 6055 move to the middle or over, on the right hand side underneath where the cartridges would sit, there’s a piece there that keeps moving back and forth, making a sound and my printer won’t print. I’ve tried checking for paper jams, removing the cartridges, replaced the cartridges, and factory reset my printer but it just keeps happening.
Any insight would be great, thank you!

Hi @sconner3647
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining that—when a mechanical part keeps shifting and the printer refuses to print, it’s understandably frustrating.
Based on your description, it sounds like the carriage mechanism or a plastic actuator beneath the cartridge area may be misaligned or obstructed. Let’s walk through a few steps that can help resolve this:
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about a minute before plugging it back in and turning it on.
Inspect the Printer Carriage Path:
- Open the printer and look inside for any visible obstructions in the printer carriage path.
- Ensure that there are no pieces of paper, packaging tape, or other debris obstructing the carriage movement.
Reinstall the Ink Cartridges:
- Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or debris.
- Reinstall the cartridges, ensuring they are seated correctly in their slots.
Check for Obstructions:
- Sometimes objects can fall inside the printer and block the movement of the carriage. Double-check the inside of the printer and gently move the printer carriage manually to see if it moves smoothly.
Check the Carriage Movement:
- Make sure the carriage moves freely from one end to the other.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back into the wall and to the back of the printer.
If the issue persists after these steps, you can explore additional diagnostics on the HP Envy 6055 troubleshooting page.
Let me know what you observe during these checks—I’ll help guide you through the next steps.

Hello!
Thank you for the suggestions! I started having this problem then unplugged it for a week while on vacation, came back and it still gave me problems. I tried a lot of what you suggested before posting on here. I unplugged it again for the night and the next day it just happened to start working again 😅😂 If this problem comes up again and these solutions don't help me, I'll make sure to reach out again.
Thank you again for your suggestions!

You're very welcome! 😄
Sometimes technology just needs a little vacation too, apparently—glad to hear your printer snapped out of its funk, even if it did so on its own terms. Devices can be like temperamental artists… unpredictable, but with moments of surprising cooperation.
If the cartridge shuttle dance returns, I’ll be here with more moves to try. And if you ever need help with anything else in the tech (or non-tech) universe, don’t hesitate to drop by.
Hope your next print job goes through flawlessly! 🖨️✨
