Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased an HP ENVY 5012 back when they came out.. One of the selling points was Instant Ink. Yes, I was one of the fools who fell for the whole, never buy cartridges again, dream. I received one set of cartridges, after that I was on my own to buy cartridges as despite paying my bill, I never received another shipment. After arguing with Customer Support until I was blue in the face, I cancelled my Instant Ink. Now I keep getting a message "Cartridge cannot be used until enrolled in Instant Ink". The cartridges installed are an HP 65XL Black and an HP 65XL Tri-color. After 4 hours online to Instant Ink Techs (4 of them) I was transferred to and HP Support Tech who was "The only one who can fix this". He couldn't. He transferred me to another Instant Ink Tech to update my billing and restart my Instant Ink subscription. Really? I've paid more to Instant Ink than I did for the printer to begin with and gotten nothing for my effort. After staring at the screen blinking for over an hour, waiting on Instant Ink to start the circle of BS all over again, I closed it because I was then at 6 hours of being online to Techs and nothing accomplished. My question is simple, Who do I remove their "back door" that allows them to remotely hold my printer hostage until I return to wasting my money paying for cartridges they never send and, at the same time, paying Staples and Best Buy for cartridges. The only way they have of keeping track of my printer is through WIFI using a back door. That's simple. How do I close it and allow the to shove their Instant Ink scam where the sun don't shine?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

As of this writing >> How it works...

Once activated and  made part of the Instant Ink contract / subscription,

OR

If Instant Ink cartridges are sent to you as part of the subscription,

AND

If / When the Instant Ink Subscription is cancelled, terminated, no longer active,

Then

All the Instant Ink cartridges, including any cartridges activated / added to the subscription

Must be removed from the printer and replaced with a purchased set of HP cartridges.

There are NO Instant Ink Cartridges in my Printer. NONE. In the years since I purchased my printer, I was sent one set of cartridges. They are long gone. In the years since, I have paid Instant Ink for the right to never get any more and been forced to buy my cartridges on the market. I cancelled Instant Ink a month ago after another round of arguing with the system to accept the XL size cartridges that I buy. Now, a month later, I am unable to use my printer still because the error message says I need to "enroll in Instant Ink." Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I have spent years paying Instant Ink copious amounts of my hard earned money for nothing. Instant Ink is a scam. Please don't hand me the "this is how it goes" pat answer when that is not how it goes. I am not a child nor am I unlearned in the ways of computers and printers. I have already completed everything on your list. Instant Ink is still holding my printer hostage and trying to force me into buying back into the scam and I am not going to. If there is no way to ever again use my printer without paying them for the right to do so (I should already have that right after I paid for the printer), then I will be forced to throw it into the river because no one else is going to want a printer they cannot use either. If this is how HP has started running their business, that it truly sad and at least borderline illegal.

Thank you for passing this on. I understand this is not Tech Support, I tried them for several days before I turned to the Community.
