These alerts are incredibly annoying. I've already set them to only alert me when I print (which was the only setting I could find), but since the printer is on the network and shared with a few other people, *any* time someone prints I get an alert. I'd like to disable them completely.
OS: Windows 7 Professional

Hello FelixP,
I understand your frustration of not being able to stop the ink level alerts on your Officejet 8600 whenever someone prints on the network. Please follow the directions listed below:
1. Start Menu
2. Control Panel
3. Devices and Printers
4. Highlight your OJ 8600 (Click on it)
5. You should now notice at the top of the devices and printers box there is a Print server properties tab (see pic below)
6. Once in the print server properties please click on the Advanced tab
7. Make sure ALL the boxes are unchecked (see pic below)
8. Click Apply
Please keep in mind that this will not turn off essential printer messages, notifying you of problems such as lack of ink or paper jams; it turns off messages notifying you of the completion of a print job or low ink warnings. Essential printer messages are built into the firmware of the printer itself and cannot be disabled.
I got this helpful information www.ehow.com
I hope this helps, please let me know if you require more assistance.
Thanks,

Hi FelixP,
When you go into your devices and printers are you highlighting your networked OJ 8600? Please let me know which options you are seeing up there. Hope to hear from you soon.

"Add a printer"
"See what's printing"
"Set as default"
"Select printing preferences"
"Delete this printer"
"Rename this printer"
"Pause printing"
"Share"
"Set printer properties"
"Go to printer's website"
"Go to the manufacturer's website"
I've tried both "Select printing preferences" and "Set printer properties," but neither of those screens have an option to disable notifications.

Are you familiar with screenshots in Windows 7? I would like you to take a screenshot of what you are seeing right now, once you are in your devices and printers. Please take a look here on How to take a screenshot in Windows 7. I will watch for your reply.

Hey FelixP,
Thanks so much for the screenshot. Are you able to see the "print server properties" options on the other shared computers? Also how did you install the OfficeJet 8600? Did you use the full feature software, or add a device in your control panel. Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks,

I followed all the instruction for disabling the low color ink notification however the printer still show the message "REPLACE EMPTY CARTRIDGE OR PRINT IN BLACK INK ONLY"
I went ahead to print in hopes your override instructions may work but it still prints in black. I realize the color quality will continue to degrade until all color ink is gone but I'd like the option of using as much of the color ink as possible and decide for myself when to change the cartridge.
