I am enrolled in HP instant ink and new cartridges arrived from HP. I installed the new black ink cartridge to replace the original which came with the printer. Message on printer screen says cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP instant ink. I clearly am as I wouldn’t have received ink but there must be a separate procedure for printer. Does anyone know what I need to do, please?

Thank you for your really helpful reply which I will happily accept. The printer did reset itself fine but soon after the problem error message reappeared. I had another go and looked more carefully at the black printer cartridge. Although I had already tried carefully cleaning the contacts I had another go. This time it all seems ok and I think that there was a tiny bit of tape or the adhesive stuck on the contacts that I have now removed. I have waited to make sure the printer is ok in all respects now which it appears to be, thank you.

Welcome to HP Support Community,
Let's try these steps -
Perform a Hard reset on the printer:
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
If you have tried the steps suggested and still getting the same error message, this could mean there may be a problem with the cartridge or with the printer enrollment.
1.Go to Instantink.com and click the link to Sign In, which is located at the top right of the page, or under the 3 horizontal lines if you are on a mobile device.
2.If you are able to log in, then you do have an account.
3.Click the Printer Details link under the printer name to check the serial number of the enrolled printer and make sure it matches the printer you are using.
If you have followed and still having the issue, I would personally suggest you contact our HP Instant ink support to help you resolve this issue.
I'm sending you a private message with the details to contact our Instant ink support for further assistance.
