HP Envy 7100 Photo
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Trying to print photos for the first time from  a Mac on Catalina 10.15.5 to HP Envy 7100 Photo, with a new multicolor cartridge just installed and in Settings>Supplies both black and color cartridges showing Good, and HP photo paper in the tray, I find that instead of the vivid colors of the digital photo of a mother and a child at a table at the edge of a wood with, for instance, a deep blue in the sky above and visible through the leaves and showing up their lightly tanned skin, the printed version has a somewhat pink wash that deadens everything. Is it simply that the 7100 is rubbish at printing in color, or is there anything I can do to improve matters?

@Hewpal, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

For more info on printing photos, refer to How to Print Photos (Mac)

Make sure the print settings are correct. Check if you have selected the correct paper type and paper size.

The print quality can be adjusted on the application you are using to print between Draft, Normal, and best as shown in this Print Settings Guide.

Check if the photo paper you are using is supported by the printer using the Product Specifications page under the Paper handling section.

Update the printer firmware

Go to Setup > Tools > Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for your response, Kumar. My iMac is on macOS Catalina 10.15.5. The printer’s firmware is  PALFASPPXN003.2010A.00, the driver HP ENVY Photo 7100 series 2.0. The supply status shows all supplies good and, as mentioned, I put in a new colour cartridge just before printing the photos. The paper I used was HP Q1992A, absolutely the required stuff. It was with all that the the pictures printed out the strangely pink-veiled colours I mentioned.

Thank you for the detailed response. Kindly check the print settings and make the necessary changes to the print quality as mentioned in my previous post.

Clean the ink cartridges

  1. On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  3. Touch Clean Cartridges, and then touch Continue.

  4. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

    NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report, and then evaluate the results.

  1. On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report.

More info on resolving print quality issues can be found on Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues

Let me know how it goes.

After cleaning the print heads twice, the photo printed out is appreciably closer to the digital image on my csreen from which it's been printed. Thanks for your advice.

@Hewpal

Glad to know that the issue is now resolved. Also, try to adjust the print quality setting to Best and check if that improves the quality. Feel free to contact us with any concerns related to HP products.

Happy to help!

I've had the setting on Photo on Glossy Paper - Fine all along. There's no such option in the Presets pull-down as "Best". I can only assume that when you advise it you're thinking of a different printer.

@Hewpal

The print settings are not printer related. It depends on the application you are using to print. As mentioned in my first post, kindly go through the Print Settings Guide to know more about print settings on a MAC.

You may also refer to How to Print Photos (Mac), check Adjust print quality: Click Media & Quality, and then move the Quality slider to the desired setting.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

In Adjust Print Quality the slider has been at the right extreme on Finest. With that setting, and what I've said before, I've just printed another photo, and it's more washed out than the image on my screen.

@Hewpal

That's unfortunate. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
