Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

First I'll explain, I'm the IT guy for a local company, but I can't fill in the product name because there are several computers networked to the printer, and all of them are running Windows 10 x64.

OK, the problem is, the office printer is an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, networked via ethernet, with WiFi disabled, but for some reason, the printer keeps enabling wifi direct, even though WiFi itself is disabled, which in turn disrupts the OEM HP drivers and shows the printer as 'offline', but when WiFi direct is disabled, all the computer can then communicate with the printer.

I would like to be able to disable WiFi direct permenantly and lock the printer settings so that only IT personell can access the settings, either via the printer's onboard screen or via it's TCP/IP address.

Hi,

I do not have access to the printer at this moment, but I assume you should be able to disable the feature via the EWS screen.

Swipe your finger from the top to the bottom of the screen, then tap the ethernet icon and locate the IP address of the printer.

From the PC browse to this IP address to open the Embedded Web Server.

Open the Settings tab, under Security select Administrator Settings.

Within the Connecitivity section look for any WiFi Direct setting and siable it from there, that should copletely disable the option from the printer screen.

Please let me know if that may help, I will try to access the printer and look around.

I have disabled it via the EWS screen using the web browser to access the printer setting using its LAN IP address, it does disable when I disable it, but in a few days, the WiFi direct setting returns to enable, and I have to go back to the company and reset that setting back to disable, then I get a call 2 days later, the printer has gone offline yet again, and further checking I find that the WiFi direct setting had gone back to enable.  As a point of interest, the printer has been returned 4 times in 6 months because of printhead issues, and now that's fixed, there's now a problem with WiFi redirect resetting itself.

I also tried it via the printers screen too, I can disable the setting, but 2-3days later, it re-enables again, and the printer device in Windows control panel under printers and devices, show the printer as offline, but resetting WiFi direct to disable and refreshing the printers and devices page, the icon then shows as online, but that only lasts for about 2-3 days, then it's back at being offline, because WiFi direct is enabled again.
