I signed up for the toner subscription by mistake when I bought my printer. I did not think the plan was cost effective for as little as I use it, so I canceled. Now I am getting errors and the printer won't print because my toner is "low". However the print quality is still good and I would like to continue printing until it isn't anymore. Is this possible anymore? What can I do to make HP stop regulating my printer?

Thanks, but I tried the all of these to the best of my ability. Nothing worked until I un-installed the HP Smart Print app altogether, and then installed the latest software and driver with <NO> HP enhancements or features. My printer is now working again without restrictions. I love this printer, but I cannot tolerate HP putting restrictions on how I use it.

Hi @twilson18,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
When you cancel an HP Instant Ink or toner subscription, your printer might stop printing if it detects that the toner cartridge is part of the subscription plan. This is likely because HP Instant Ink cartridges are linked to the subscription and will stop working once the subscription is canceled.
Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:
Replace the Subscription Toner Cartridge:
- Purchase a regular toner cartridge that is not part of the Instant Ink or toner subscription program.
- Replace the subscription toner cartridge with the new one. This should allow your printer to continue printing.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.
- Sometimes a reset can help clear error messages and allow the printer to recognize a new toner cartridge.
Update Firmware:
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve issues related to canceled subscriptions.
- You can update the firmware through the HP Smart app or the HP support website.
Check Printer Settings:
- Access the printer settings through the control panel or the HP Smart app.
- Look for any settings related to toner or ink management and ensure they are set correctly.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contacting HP phone support for further assistance is recommended.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
