Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I read the post about printer error messages. I will be glad to help. Your excellent troubleshooting and diagnosis of the situation were perfect. It is greatly appreciated.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Was there a power outage or surge before this happened?
It looks like a hardware issue. I am honest about it without beating around the bush. For now, please try these steps:
- Perform all relevant steps from this document: https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-6500-all-in-one-printer-series-e709/3795309/mo... (HP Printers - 'Ink System Failure' or '0x ...' Error Code Displays) step 1 to step 6 and check again
- Then update the printer firmware also by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16
- There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it. Use a USB cable to do it.
- Now check if it gets fixed.
If the issue continues, to ensure that nothing is missed, check if the printer has a carriage jam an follow instructions from this document: https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-6500-all-in-one-printer-series-e709/3795309/mo... (A 'Carriage jam' or '0X610000F6' Message Displays for HP Officejet 6500)
Now check if the issue gets fixed. If it persists, The printer needs to be replaced. I will send you a private message to assist you with the next course of action. Please check your forum private message box next to the bell notification icon on the upper right-hand corner for a private message from me for further assistance.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help
Thank you and have a great day ahead. 🙂

No, there hasn't been a power outage or surge. We just opened the box. It was still factory sealed. Now, it keeps saying it's Calibrating the printer and it will take 7 mins. Power button has been flashing and that message has been scrolling for over 24 hrs. YouTube has been our friend. I will try these hardware steps and get back with you. I appreciate your help.
Thank you,
Sara Stevens

I read your super quick response and the efforts displayed along with great troubleshooting skills to try and resolve the issue. It is a hardware issue with the printer. I am being candid about it.
The printer needs to be replaced. Please follow instructions from my private message for steps on how to do it. Before that follow all the steps from this link: https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-6500-all-in-one-printer-series-e709/3795309/mo... (HP All-in-One Printers - 'Out of Paper' Error and Printer Does Not Pick Paper) if it has not yet been done. Besides, it is an older printer and has failed after several years.
It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you and trust me I've done all I can to assist you here by keeping your best interest in mind.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help
Thank you and have a great year ahead and stay healthy. 🙂
