HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

I am struggling to understand why I can't print a grayscale document, regardless of the fact I have an empty color cartridge.  I have two HP Printers in the house and would like to use this one for black & white printing only without having to replenish the color cartridges.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

Check your cartridges - some printers do require all cartridges to be installed and have ink to print.

Black ink only / Print with only black ink / print with one cartridge / single cartridge

HP Printers - Cannot Print When One HP Ink Cartridge is Empty

Check the ink cartridge number(s).  Some printers require that all cartridges have usable ink.

Example,

932, 933, 950, 951-959, 962-969 cartridges:

Ink is required in all cartridges to print and to perform periodic servicing to prevent clogs and other print quality issues. There is no way to bypass this feature.

If one of the following messages displays, replace the indicated cartridge to continue printing.

  • The cartridges above must be replaced to resume printing

  • Cartridges Depleted

  • Depleted cartridges must be replaced to resume printing
