Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding assistance with password issues. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
-
- What password did you set up on the printer?
- What is the version of the operating system associated with the printer? Is it Windows or Mac?
- Is it a wireless connection connected by means of a router to the computer?
For now, let me keep you posted about a few things:
- HP printers come without any passwords out of the box.
- The customers set up the wireless connection and use the username and password to connect to the wireless network.
- It is not possible to setup only a password without a username.
- So please try the network username and password of your wireless network.
- Now check if it works. I
Also, furnish all the requested information for me to assist you accurately.
Meanwhile, you could restore factory defaults on the printer by following the instructions in the user guide of the printer: http://hp.care/2EXRMoO refer to page 112 of the user guide on how to do it. This should fix the issue.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
Hope to hear from you soon. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Thank u for trying to help me.
Ok the password I put it wasn't directly on the printer. It was thru the HP SMART APP. Now if I try to print anything or do any settings thru that app it's asking me for a password and THE USERNAME. I did set a password but I never got to put a username.
Now the question is why is asking me for a username when I never put one ?
Or where I find that username?
I have an hp envy photo 7155 printer...

I had the same problem and have spent about 2 hours searching these forums for an answer. Most of the "official" answers seem to involve restoring the factory settings, but that is impossible unless you are able to log in. Finally I found out that the default username is "admin" (all lower case).
