I am restoring my OfficeJet Pro 8610 to factory defaults using the instructions found in the user manual (From the control panel display, I went to settings, then tools, then Restore Factory Defaults). It has had the "Restoring factory defaults... The printer will restart automatically." message on the control panel display for the past hour and a half. I had the printer connected to the router through an ethernet cable at first, but unplugged it and then replugged it in 20 minutes later in case the ethernet cable affected anything. With the ethernet cable in now, I can access the printer through the embedded web server even though it is in the "Restoring factory defaults" state. Should I try to also reset it from the embedded web server? If not, how long should the factory reset take. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂
Thank you for posting on HP Forums, MKazi is at your service.
I understand that you attempted to perform a factory defaults on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer and since then the printer is stuck on "Restoring factory defaults... The printer will restart automatically" message. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.
Usually, it should not take more than a few minutes to restore the printer to its factory settings. However, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
- The printer may go through the initial warm up period and take a few seconds to settle down.
However, if the issue persists then let us attempt a semi full reset on your printer. A private message has been sent to you with the email full reset instructions.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.
Good luck! 🙂

Thank you, I followed your instructions since it was stuck on the "Restoring factory defaults... The printer will restart automatically" message for 24 hours, and then performed a semi-full reset, and it now works.
