I changed the 3 colored ink cartridges and now the printer says there is a General Printer error. As directed, I turned off the printer and unplugged the printer (several times) and the error screen still appears. The error screen says if the unplugging does not work, to reach out to hp.com/support. This is where that website directed me. Any suggestions on what is wrong with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus?

Hi @Jeanna400 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are encountering a general printer error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus after changing ink cartridges can be frustrating, but there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue:
- Verify Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed. Sometimes, improper installation can trigger error messages. Make sure they are securely in place.
- Check for Protective Tape or Packaging: Ensure that you have removed any protective tape or packaging from the new ink cartridges. Leaving tape on the cartridges can cause errors.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door. Gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water. Make sure they are dry before reinstalling.
- Restart Printer: After cleaning, restart the printer by unplugging it from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Reset Printer: If restarting doesn't work, try resetting the printer. You can usually find a reset option in the printer's menu settings. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
- Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with new cartridges. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's settings menu or by visiting the HP website.Update the firmware on an HP printer
