Jeez ... all I want to know ias how to check the ink levels in my HP Officejet 8600Plus All-in-one. You'd think there would be either a short video or a short message on how to do it, but I have been at this now for an hour and I hope someone can help. Going to Start, Printers and Devies, and opening the HP 8600Pro didn't do it. The videos of how to involved other printers which all had at the top menu a place to "Check Ink Levels". That doesn't show up on mine nor in any drop down card.

Please print a Printer status report or use instructions on page 90 of the following manual
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03026243
Normally when printing something, click printer icon (on the bottom right) you shoulc be able to see ink levels.
Regards.

Thank you for your efforts and consideration. I opened the Printers and Devices again on the Start Button and got three options:
"See What’s Printing, Customize You Printer, Set Preferences. Folowing those I found nothing about how to print a Printer Status Report. When I searched the "Help" tab for "Check Ink Levels" and for "Printer Staus Report", the return was "0 Results". Page 90 of the Instruction Manual says to go to "Understand the Printer Staus Report", which I did and read all of the pages on that topic. Nowhere did I find how to Print the Status Report. If that Manual has it, why not set it forth explicitly? On pages 147=-149, there are directions like "To print the Printer Status Report From the Home screen, touch (right arrow), and then select Setup. Touch Reports, and then select Printer Status Report" -- I take that to mean the Printer's Home Screen as no such arrow appears anywhere on my computer's home screen. Which brings up the question: If you can't check the levels from the computer, why have directions on Page 90 that you can't comply with? Well ... following that advice, I touched the Printer's Home Screen and went to Setup -- which gave four choices, none of which dealt with Reports. The arrow had disappeared, but out of frustration, I touched the screen again where the arrow had been and a second page of options appeared which did have "Reports" among them and then, finally, I could get the Printer Status Report. How a manufacturer can make such a simple thing so obtuse and survive is a wonder.
I do thank yo for taking the time to help me. Wouldn't it be easier to say: "To check ink levels, go to the Printer's home screen, touch the arrow on the right and go to Setup and press the arrow again for the second page of Setup and choose Reports and then choose Status Report" ... I can say that in 45 words; why can't they? Because they are talking to ach other, not to ordinary people.
