Hello, I'm getting a message on my Photosmart C5200 to check the CTD unit 092-910 and to clean the CTD sensor.

My Basic Guide does not cover these issues and I don't know where or what they are. If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Hi @Leonardo30,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Cleaning the CTD (Color Toner Density) sensor on an HP Photosmart C5200 printer is crucial for maintaining print quality and preventing errors like the one you're encountering. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean it.

  • Turn off the Printer: Before doing any maintenance, make sure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source to avoid any electrical hazards.
  • Locate the CTD Sensor: The CTD sensor is typically located near the toner cartridges inside the printer. Open the printer's top cover to access the cartridges. The sensor may be a small, rectangular-shaped component near the cartridges.
  • Prepare Cleaning Materials: You'll need a soft, lint-free cloth (such as a microfiber cloth) and some distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the sensor.
  • Clean the Sensor: Moisten the cloth with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. Gently wipe the CTD sensor with the damp cloth to remove any dust, toner residue, or other debris that may be interfering with its function. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as you don't want to damage the sensor.
  • Dry the Sensor: After cleaning, use a dry part of the cloth to gently dry the sensor and ensure that no moisture remains.
  • Reassemble the Printer: Once the sensor is clean and dry, close the printer's top cover and plug it back into the power source.
  • Test the Printer: Turn on the printer and print a test page to check if the error message still appears.

Remember to perform regular maintenance on your printer to keep it in optimal condition and prevent issues like this from occurring in the future.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
