Hi @Lee132,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering an issue with your HP Deskjet F4480 printer where the attention light is flashing, indicating a problem with the black ink cartridge, even though you've replaced the cartridge and tried troubleshooting steps like unplugging the power and USB cable. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly installed. Sometimes, cartridges might not be fully seated in their slots, causing communication errors with the printer.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Remove the black ink cartridge and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and wait for a few minutes. Then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear error messages.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and bugs that cause errors.
- Check for Paper Jams: Even if the error light is related to the ink cartridge, sometimes paper jams or other issues can trigger false error messages. Open all access doors and check for any obstructions or paper jams inside the printer.
- Perform a Hard Reset: If none of the above steps work, you can try performing a hard reset on the printer. This usually involves pressing certain buttons in a specific sequence while the printer is turned on. Refer to your printer's manual or the HP website for instructions on how to perform a hard reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
