Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just installed M479fdw as a network printer.  First experience with an HP color laser.  How do I set up either the printer or the default printer settings so that users have to consciously select color?  I can create a new printer shortcut that is B&W, but I can't figure out how to make it my default.  It is completely unreasonable to have to click Print/Print Options/Properties/Shortcut/OK/Print every time I just want to print a copy of an email.  I've found the "Restrict Color" section deep in HP Smart, but that's not at all what I want.  I just want to default printing to B&W for all applications and all users.

You need to configure the driver default to monochrome.

Some instructions on how to do that would be appreciated.  I've tried three paths that are dead-end.

Ok, on the computer go to control panel>devices and printers and then right click on the icon for the printer and select printer properties from the dropdown menu.

Click on Preferences

click on color, change to grayscale and the click settings and change all options to black only

change to grayscale and then click settings and change all options to black only

Following this path will change the default settings for the currently logged in user. If you want to change all users click on Advanced and then printer defaults and make the same changes as above. This will apply to anyone using that computer.
