Does anyone have any information or a link on how to disassemble HP 8230 photo-smart printer? (The concealed fastening is not as obvious as those models featured on UTube).

I am especially interested in how the two darker grey corner strips unclip.  They run along the two top sides , down the left and right corners and curl around slightly across the front.  There are three indented clips on the top that release okay, but it is still firmly clipped down the sides and front.

@donpin, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

  • May I know the reason why you'd want to disassemble the printer?
  • Is there any issue that I can help you with?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello TEJ1602

The reason is simple, the black cartridge is partially clogged and there are only two ways to deal with it. The best solution is simply to pull it apart and flush the print-head in hot water, the second is to load empty third party cartridges with a mild ammonia and repeatedly run HP's software driven print head cleaning routine, perhaps 50x. Or throw it into landfill. (The HP cleaning routine will not clear it despite being run repeatedly).

Ideally TEJ1602, the help I want is a video showing how the 8230 case is disassembled. I have a very good video that shows exactly what is required to be done once an 02 cartridge printer has been opened, but unfortunately, as someone else has commented, these are put together like a Chinese puzzle and the videoed disassembly started with a different, much easier case!

Perhaps the EU will one day force all printer manufacturers to post a disassembly video along with making head cleaning more easily accessible, using screws (rather than concealed clips or melting parts of the head together) and even selling replacement heads.  It certainly does not sit well with the environmentalists that these printers are deliberately forced into rubbish in pursuit of new sales.

HP FYI - I have been very happy with the printer, except of course for the price of inks. The printer has always given excellent results if run on HP Premium Photo paper or HP Every Day Semi-Gloss paper.  The reds are hopelessly dull and orange colored on HP Advanced paper so I can never ever use that.  It has always been a personal disappointment that HP essentially gave up on serious consumer inkjets - I would have upgraded years ago if HP had brought out the six ink Vivera inks in an A3+ model.

Hope you can help with that disassembly video or info and push for an HP policy change in future.
