I purcvhased an HP 309a printer a number of years ago and have never been able to use because of a printer error 0x6100004a. Talk about frustration!!!
Actually went out and bought another. But now decided to play with the old one again. Has anyone ever figured out the problem?????
Just seems a shame to have a brand new printer sitting on a shelf that can't be used.

Hi @creekview207,

As I understand you are getting a '0x' error message on your HP Photosmart printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions, which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?
Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges or refilled cartridges?
Have you tried to clean the cartridge contact as well as rollers?
Are you able to move the carriage manually?
Are you able to make a copy from the printer?
Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

Good afternoon from Maine!
I've got this error message, but there is no paper jam. The ink cartridges won't slide and there are no cables connected other then the power cord. I had a problem with power to this printer due to rebooting wi-fi with same surge protector; router has been replaced by cable company since then. Printer message says it wasn't shut down properly.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled program with cd accompanied printer. This printer is not that old and has been used very little. Left it in "shut down" mode all night and it was still showing this am. Power cord has been disconnected on both ends also. WI-FI light is on steady.
When print request made from phone I'm getting message printer isn't available right now.
On one help suggestion somewhere it instructed holding down WI-FI and cancel button at same time. However, I wasn't able to change screen to get a cancel option.
Any suggestions you may have would certainly be appreciated!

The ink carriage won't slide manually so I can't remove cartridges. There's a bright yellow light on screen which reads "printer failure" and "later". I have original HP ink cartridges, printer won't scan or do anything. There were no changes made prior to this problem and I used it to print one page a week before problem. How do I clean print head and rollers?
