I made the mistake of installing the HP software because the MacOS automated system didn't seem to pick up the right driver (I also use a multifunction printer).  Now I get plagued by frequent ink popups that basically tell me that I have HP cartridges (which I already know, thank you) and for which I do not seem to have a means to kill them off permanently.

Worse is that it's not just ONE pupop but about 4 which then vanish again, and they take focus so it makes a mess of whatever I'm doing when they appear.

How do I (1) eradicate these popups in full, completely and in a manner that ensures they never appear again, (2) ensure that the next driver update doesn't re-introduce them and (3) get the [redacted] sacked who came up with this [redacted] idea?

In general, I would also like instructions on how to completely eradicate HP drivers from my system - there seems to be a rather high element of data extraction to be embedded in both the software and the printer which runs diametrically counter to our ever increasing privacy needs (like the soon to be introduced EU GDPR legislation which can cost us as much as 4% of turnover if we make mistakes).  If we do not gain control over this we may have to abandon our use of HP printers altogether.

Hello @__-__,

If the pop-ups are being displayed from the HP Software you can disable them in the HP Utility.

Go to the Applications folder.  In teh Applications folder will be an HP folder.  Inside that folder is a shortcut to the HP Utility.  Open the HP Utility.

Once the HP Utility is open select your printer on the left side.  (If there is only one printer installed you may not see the list).

Click on Message Center.

In Message Center click on Settings.

In Message Center Settings de-select the box labelled "Show extended alerts for:

Select Apply Now at the bottom.

This will turn off the pop up alerts.

The easiest way to remove all HP Driver software from your macOS system is to download HP Easy Start and use the uninstaller.

You can get HP Easy Start here.

Then foloow the instruction on this support page for uninstalling using HP Easy Start.

HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac)

You will then need to create a new print queue for the printer using AirPrint if you do not want to use the HP Software.

Thank you, that worked.  It turns out I was receiving multiple messages per printer, and as I have a number of them installed on my machine that ended up rather messy.  I now also have to unearth how to kill this off on WIndows 8.  Ugh.

Now, key question: even if we accept that marketing somehow has a right to disturb my work (which it hasn't), why [deleted] did those marketing messages have to be the focus grabbing ones?  I hope HP never sells to companies that handle emergencies because it's flat out dangerous to interrupt their work.  Or, say, nuclear power plants.  Such popups are really good fun if you're trying to enact an emergency shutdown or trying to get critical information out.

I recommend tar & feathers for whoever came up with that idea.

Most of the Enterprise catagory printers do not even offer extended alerts at install.  So, this level of customer would not see these pop-ups.

Even on Pro and consumer level products the extended alerts are optional at install in HP Easy Start.  If you do not select the box for extended alerts you willnot receive the pop-up style messaging.  Or you can select it and only have the messaging for certain types of events like errors.

I can understand how these could get frustrating especially if you have several printers on your network.

I am glad you were able to resolve your issue.

Hi

This is also driving me nuts!  Unfortunately when I go into HP Utility, I don't see an option for Message Center

I've clicked on all of the items shown and nothing has anything related to messages. I would love to know how to turn them off.

thanks!

HP8610 driver and utility does not have message queue option.  I could not find any option to turn of the annoying ink refill msgs.
