Hello there, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about the error message you're seeing on your 6700 Premium printer. Below I have linked you to the guide used for this error message. Also, if you check out the second link and scroll down to Solution three, you will see the instructions on how to clean the printhead, to answer your question.
A 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error Message
Solution three: Use an automated tool to clean the printhead
I hope this information helps and I have addressed your inquiry!
Have a great day

I am having same problem and the proposed solution was of no help. When attempting to clean I immediately get the error message. Is there any way to manually clean printhead?
I am very frustrated that I would need to bring this into a shop (or replace) just cause some ink got in the wrong spot.
There seems to me a manual way to remove printhead for every other printer.
Sad and less likely to buy a new HP,
Clint

Okay so I know many of these posts are old, but this page comes up in top 10 google results if looking for info on 6700 disassembly or printhead removal. I have answers for all of you.
You will need a torx screwdriver (spring hook will make life much easier too)
Remove the paper output tray. Just lift it upwards and pull it out.
There are 4 (four) screws holding the front cover on. One of them is located under the control-panel. Remove all 4.
Next look at the bottom of the machine. The front cover has 2 big clips holding it in place. Unclip these and use a lil force to level the bottom of the cover upwards. Do not pull it too hard or far away as the control panel ribbon cable is still attached. Just pull so that it detaches from the ADF assembly.
Now you can lift the entire ADF assy. It's easiest to do this by putting your hand into the front door and gently lifting it from below. It is on hinges at the back of the machine, make sure not to drop it closed or you may damage the ADF.
Next is the messy part. removing the actual printhead. It doesn't just unclip as you would like. You will need to unplug 4 ribbon cables, remove two springs that hold it in place (spring hook will help here. You could also maybe bend a paperclip or use a piece of string to grip the spring.) Finally you will need to remove two small rubber tubes: they just slide on and off the little nozzle. You can now remove the printhead.
To manually clean a printhead, soak it in an inch of boiling water (or 50/50 solution of boiling water and ammonia based cleaner like Windex) repeatedly. There are plenty of articles online about cleaning printheads so I won't go into details here; I urge you to look for one before doing it.
Of course, now you have to reassemble it. Nothing special here, do the disassembly procedure in reverse. Install printhead, plug in the tubes and ribbons and spring, close the ADF, clip the frontcover back on, reinstall the screws.
Goodluck, hope this helps someone.
I do not work for HP. I do fix printers and copiers though.
Sadly the chances are if you get the failed ink system error the machine is likely scrap unless it's still under warranty. I would only bother trying to remove and clean this printhead if it were partially clogged or you're really desperate to try.
