Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows Vista

I have a Word document of random pictures of various sizes.  I would like to print this onto an 8.5x11 piece of photo paper.  I have carefully gone over all the options in each area and it simply will not allow it.  I have done this my entire life of having a computer, but with the Envy, it feeds the paper, then stops and says I have a paper jam.  The paper is NOT jammed and perfectly fine (although it's no longer usable after I have to remove it).  I have clicked on 'other' photo paper and glossy paper because it is Staples brand 'High Gloss Photo Supreme' paper, but it does not make a difference.  I have also tried to gently 'bow' the paper a tad get the paper to feed better in case it's the thickness that is the issue, but that did not help either.  Sadly, I am not very experienced with computers so if anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it!

Ideas:

Paper Weight / Paper "Surface"

Although the printer can usually accomodate any high-grade (high quality) paper regardless of brand, different paper makers produce slightly different paper "surface" qualities on their photo paper.  If the paper "surface" is other than what the printer can handle, it may stick, fail to print, jam, slide - or any combination.

If the "Supreme" paper is heavier than what the printer can handle, it won't print.  Maximum weight is not a "soft" restriction, that is, you cannot overcome the restriction by changing the Media (kind of paper) settings.

Print Settings

Make sure the Print settings are set in both the Word Print menu AND within the Printer Properties .

For example:
Set the Source (as opposed to leaving it "auto")
Verify / Set the Media
Click Advanced and check / verify the settings there (Paper Size, other..)
Make sure you don't have "two sided" selected - duplex is not compatible with photo paper.

Printer Maintenance

If the printer has been in service for a while, it may be a bit dirty.

Thank you for the information.  I am going to assume it is the 'surface' issue and pick up a new box of hp paper this weekend.  I was hoping to finish what I already had since there are close to 100 sheets left, but....  I'll be happy if it's this easy to be able to continue on.

If the paper has worked before, there is reason to think it could still do so.  Might be something else going on.

If you purchase new paper, be sure to let it acclimate to the environment before using it.
