We got a new office printer; my coworker set up the actual printer, and I set up the login info, wireless; the software and user portions. I NEVER added a password or PIN. However, about 2 months after the set up, I noticed several features were locked that were not locked before. I tried logging in to the EWS using our IP address that starts with "10.1....." and I couldn't even login there. The login info I set up originally for the HP platforms is our email address and general password. However, when I try to log in using that same info on the EWS, it says the login info is wrong. I tried overriding on the printer itself, but it asked for a PIN. I never set up a PIN either! I have NO idea how or why the printer has set up its own password and PIN, but now it won't let me access any settings so I can't fax, scan to the computer, change the apps, etc...
I have reset the network settings, turned the printer off then on again, and done the hard reset by unplugging the cord from the printer, then wall, let it sit for 1 minute, then plugged it all back in. Didn't work. I tried that in addition to a network settings reset, that also didn't work. I have gone through 16 different HP forums, several pages of google search results, and an endless number of networking, printer, software, and technology blogs; there is not a single solution that works! I keep getting the message "Contact the person who set up your printer" but that's me! Like I said, I have no idea how or why it added its own secret PIN and adminstator privileges and password, but I'm finding that's a common problem with HP Printers so you'd think there would be a reliable solution to fix this ridiculous problem already but... no. Please help!

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 Printer. I understand that your printer is asking for password to change the settings and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.
Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well.
Perform a semi-full reset on the printer.
I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.
Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,
Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
Please reply back on the public post as this Private message box is not monitored.
I hope this helps resolve this issue completely.
