Where are you seeing "locked" templates?

 

It might be the expected setup used with your printer software.

 

The following might be relevant to your software / printer; at this writing, the Full Feature Software is dated late 2015

 

 

Some (older) print software uses the "locked" template to indicate "standard" templates.

 

Depending on the printer and the printer software, it may be possible to select one of these standard templates, make changes to the setup, and save the adjusted settings under a new shortcut name for later use.

 

Example 1- Officejet Pro 8630

Printing Preferences shows "locked" templates available to use as-is, or for change-and-save under a new shortcut name.

Example 2 - Officejet Pro 8740

Some printer software has "done away" with the idea of visually "locked" templates, possibly to reduce confusion.  The setup / method is the same:  Choose a shortcut to use > use as-is -- or modify and save the settings under a new shortcut name.

Thank you so much Dragon -Fur for responding to my problem.  A friend came over and explained to me what you indicated about the "locked" templates.  I guess I had never noticed the lock icons before.  He thinks the problem is old/dried ink.  I will get new ink tomorrow and we will see.  Thanks again.
