Hi @gfomba

Welcome to the HP support community.

The Dynamic Security feature on HP printers, including the HP OfficeJet 7720, is a security measure that prevents the use of non-HP ink or toner cartridges. This feature is typically enabled by default on printers that support HP’s Instant Ink program or are using original HP cartridges. The dynamic security feature can sometimes cause issues if you're using third-party cartridges or if you want to disable it for another reason.

Disabling Dynamic Security on the HP OfficeJet 7720

Unfortunately, Dynamic Security is built into the firmware of HP printers and cannot be fully disabled through the printer's settings or the regular menu. However, there are a few things you can try if you want to bypass or work around it:

Option 1: Using Original HP Cartridges

If you're using genuine HP cartridges, the dynamic security feature shouldn't cause issues. Ensure that you're using cartridges from HP or a recognized supplier. The flashing lights or warnings related to dynamic security are usually related to counterfeit or third-party cartridges, and switching to genuine HP cartridges will often resolve this.

Option 2: Install HP Firmware Updates

HP occasionally releases firmware updates that can modify or fix how Dynamic Security works. Here’s how to update the firmware on your HP OfficeJet 7720:

Through the Printer's Control Panel:

  • From the home screen, press the Wi-Fi icon to make sure your printer is connected to the internet.
  • Go to Settings (gear icon) > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • If a firmware update is available, follow the prompts to install it.

Through the HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app (available for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS).
  • Open the app and select your HP OfficeJet 7720 printer.
  • Check for available firmware updates under the Printer Settings section.

Option 3: Resetting the Printer to Factory Defaults

If the printer is causing problems due to a dynamic security issue, you can try resetting the printer to factory settings, which may remove some configurations that were affecting the cartridge functionality. Here’s how to do that:

  1. From the Printer’s Control Panel:
    • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore or Restore Factory Defaults.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to reset the printer.

Note: This will erase any custom settings and preferences you have set up, but it may also clear any persistent issues related to Dynamic Security.

Option 4: Use Third-Party Ink Cartridges (At Your Own Risk)

If you want to use third-party ink cartridges, you might experience errors related to Dynamic Security. While it's not officially supported, there are third-party cartridge manufacturers and online communities that provide firmware solutions or advice on how to bypass the dynamic security feature. This can involve:

  • Downgrading the firmware to an older version that does not have Dynamic Security.
  • Using special firmware patches or hacks, though this can void your warranty and potentially cause other issues.

It’s important to be cautious when trying these methods as they may not be officially supported and could result in damage to your printer or void your warranty.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
